Future Battery Industries Cooperative Research Centre (FBICRC)
Cobalt Blue is a contributing partner in the FBICRC, focusing on the Resources, Processing and Recycling research stream.
The FBICRC is enabling the growth of battery industries to power Australia’s future. It brings together industry, researchers, governments, and the community to ensure Australia plays a leading role in the global battery revolution. The work is critical in making our industries more competitive by harnessing the research skills and industry expertise required to create new economic opportunities.
Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) – Project Grant
Cobalt Blue was awarded A$2.4 million (CRC – Project Round 8 Funding) in February 2020 from the Australian Government. The grant enables applied research and development of the processing of cobalt-pyrite ore to generate battery-ready cobalt sulphate over 3 years.
In terms of research and development, Cobalt Blue is working with the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO), and Anergy Australia, to undertake applied processing and larger-scale test work. The aim is to demonstrate and optimise the processing of our ore to generate battery-ready cobalt sulphate.
