Since 2024, the BHTC has been focused on piloting the processing flowsheet for the Kwinana Cobalt Refinery.
These programs have successfully produced battery-grade cobalt sulphate and high-purity cobalt metal for applications including batteries, defence and advanced manufacturing.
The program has included testing of feed material from:
Mixed hydroxide from the Broken Hill Cobalt Project
Cobalt hydroxide from Glencore’s mining operations in the DRC
Cobalt-nickel sulphide from an Australian nickel operation
Nickel-cobalt cakes from a recycling facility in USA
Cobalt cake from a recycling facility in India
Battery black mass from recycling facilities in Australia
Cobalt sulphate meeting product specifications
